“Plant the seed and watch it grow, pass it on and let it go”

Katie Doherty and The Navigators’ new single 'Passing Through' is a song about the things we share with one another. Stories and songs, kind words and compassion; all of these seeds, if planted and nurtured, create endless opportunities for growth.

The video, filmed during a real community gathering in a tiny village in the North Pennines, demonstrates these foundations. Katie’s local village hall in Townfield – which, in recent years, has been slowly crumbling despite enormous community effort to bring it back to life - transforms into a warm collection of friends and family and strangers alike, young and old, each with their own story to tell. The warmth is generated by the collective giving of a community, something which Katie and The Navigators share a true passion for.

“One of the many things I love about folk music is the small gigs which rely upon a community to make them happen. It’s a collective effort, combining interaction, creativity and collaboration from both audience and musicians, often leading to an incredibly memorable experience for all. During these tumultuous times, this community is predominantly online - sharing songs, tunes, recipes and endless creativity while generating positivity and hope for anyone to access. I hope that when we come out the other side of this, these grassroots activities are valued more than they ever have been before.” - Katie

Through the release of ‘Passing Through’, Katie and the band are raising awareness for two local causes which chime with the message of the song: using our unique talents and stories to help each other grow. They asking listeners who would usually stream their music to donate £1 to either cause:
